family outing

Since the weather seemed like it might be a little warmer and sunnier this weekend, we thought it might be fun to have a family outing outside. First, we stopped to get kringle and coffee in St. Anthony Park and then we headed over to the Como Zoo and Conservatory. We certainly weren't the only family with that idea!

James was perfectly happy to look around and take in all the sights and sounds of the Conservatory.

By the time we headed home, however, he was doing his best sloth imitation.

17 weeks/4 months

James was 17 weeks old this past Thursday, and he will be 4 months old on Monday. He has seemed so much older these past couple of weeks -- rolling over, not needing support for his head any more, wearing cute shoes and 9 month-sized overalls... what happened to the little boy we brought home 4 months ago?!

happy Friday!

Just another exciting Friday night at our house...(a little blurry, but I didn't want the flash to wake him)

spring training

In honor of the start of spring training for the Twins, James decided to show his team spirit by debuting his Twins outfit. This was the first outfit I bought for James after I found out I was pregnant. At the time, I didn't even know if we were having a boy or a girl... but I did know we would have a Twins fan!

Even Amelie (reluctantly) shows off her team spirit by wearing James' bib as a cape.

This was a momentous day for James. Not only did he get to wear his Twins outfit, but he also rolled over for the first time (front to back, twice). The first time, we thought it just might be a fluke, but then he did it again. Aaron and I felt a bit like we were training a dog: "roll over, James!" At least he has mastered "sit" and "stay" :)

16 weeks

James was 16 weeks old this past Thursday. He continues to amaze us with his range of sounds and noises -- nothing that sounds remotely like any sort of word, however :) And he is enjoying putting everything in his month... hands, toys, basically anything within an arm's reach of him. Today was nice enough (i.e. above freezing) for us to go for a little walk. We also had an outing to the grocery store and watched lots of Olympics. I've enjoyed the skating and skiing races the most as they have been the most exciting and suspenseful.

James has been a really good sleeper these past few months, but he's having more and more mornings where he wakes up at 4 or 5. He usually goes back to sleep after a snack, but this morning he did not. Not sleepy baby makes for very sleepy mom! He's looking pretty awake in these pictures, too:

15 weeks!

James is 15 weeks old today. He is fascinated by his toys (all two of them) and his feet. He also likes to smile at his reflection in the mirror. I realized today that his winter hat is getting really small on him. Hopefully we won't have winter for too much longer.

This has felt like a really long week, with slow, snowy commutes to work and Aaron being out of town at a conference. Last night, James and I fell asleep at 7 for a three hour nap. Of course, then he wasn't interested in going to bed until midnight. Still, that nap felt pretty good!

Here are just a few pictures that I took to send to Aaron while he is away. James is playing with his lion toy and laughing at his mom as she makes "lion noises".

14 weeks

James was 14 weeks old this past Thursday. As you can see, it was an exhausting day for him :)

He's started to show an interest in some of his soft toys and will try to grab at them. Between toys and his own feet, he can play quietly for longer periods of time now. In this picture, you can also see the birthmark just below his right knee:
Here he is playing with another toy. This one vibrates and can hang from the handle of his car seat so it's pretty fun for him :)
Spiky hair!

strong baby

James wants to show off how strong he is getting :)
