fun with family

We've had a really fun time this past few weeks. James is learning more and more words and just loves playing and helping and showing off his new skills. Some days, however, his favorite word is just simply "no"... or "n-n-n-n-n-no" as was the case today. But even when it is a tough day for him, he can still find a reason to smile.

Fortunately, it doesn't take much to get him to smile.

Silly. Here he is just about to be tickled by daddy:
Love these boys!
We've been able to have so much fun these past few weeks thanks to a visit from Grandma and Grandpa. They spent a lot of time occupying him so Aaron and I could have few outings on our own. We both took a vacation day from work so we could go to the Twins game. Despite the display of team spirit, the Twins were unable to come through with a win.

James spent the afternoon at Caribou, learning how to enjoy a mocha.

Blocks are never too far from his little hands.
This past weekend, James had a play date with friends. We all enjoyed some nice weather and good company.

It finally feels like summer is here. We have plans for splashing in the pool, getting sticky eating popsicles, and spending many days at the park.

new toys

James accompanied me for a shopping trip yesterday and I couldn't resist getting him a few new toys. He got a pail, shovel, and rake for playing in the sand. He got a new puzzle since he likes doing those at day care. And he got a cloth tool belt so he can be just like his favorite story book character, the monkey with a tool belt.

We spent a lot of time playing with the new toys yesterday, both inside and out.

James learned the word "saw" yesterday.

18 months

James turned 18 months old at the end of April. At his check-up, he weighed in at 22.5 lbs (10th percentile) and measured 32 inches tall (42nd percentile). So he's on the small size but I'm sure that will change before too long. After suffering from a cough for the last few weeks, he was diagnosed with a mild ear infection and given an antibiotic. He had signs of an ear infection back in February but after just a few days of antibiotic, his cough was gone.

Not that a cough or ear infection would slow him down. He's still as active as ever, making it hard to get a picture of him where he's actually looking at the camera.

He still loves looking at books, playing with his ball, giving hugs, and being silly. He's very proud of himself when he learns a new skill or a new word. He likes doing things by himself but gets easily frustrated when he can't. Sometimes, it's hard to be a toddler!
